Manchester Carnival - Visitor Information
Visitor Information
Manchester is a great city with lots to do. However, in the month of August there is only one place in Manchester to be, at the Carnival.

To help you get the best out of the Carnival we have put together a brief list of information and tips. Following our advice should help you get the best out of your Carnival day.

Events
Official events. There are always lots of supporting attractions on Carnival weekend to pack your day with fun. A full 2019 Carnival events programme and a Carnival route map is available here.

Parade
Feel free to dance during the Carnival parade. However, please try to dance on the side-lines and avoid the temptation to 'jump-up' with a troupe who have worked hard at a cohesive routine with costume impact. If the urge is too much, why not make a costume and join one of our Open Mas Bands next year? Please click here and send us a message stating your interest, with your contact details and we'll be in touch with you very soon. We recommend arriving early in order to secure a good position. This should also ensure that you get a good view. Remember to wear comfortable footwear, especially if you are following the procession or dancing with the crowds. Flip flops and high heels are NOT advisable.

Staying Safe
Remember to wear comfortable footwear, especially if you are following the procession or dancing with the crowds. Flip flops and high heels are NOT advisable. If you are bringing a small child, please note that a small buggy, baby sling or harness is easier to manage and keeps little ones close. Drink responsibly. The best way to have great Carnival memories? PLEASE don't overdo the alcohol! Get your bearings and arrange a meeting spot in case someone gets lost. Remember, Manchester is a big City. Be sensible; keep your valuables, personal possessions, keys, phones and money close and covered. St John's Ambulance are on hand just in case you need any medical attention, but if you follow these simple steps you will have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Food and Hygiene
Please keep good food hygiene in mind. The Carnival is a big event with thousands of people so it is a good idea to bring a handy sized bottle of hand sanitizer. If you enjoy tasting food from different cultures there will be hundreds of food and drink stalls to choose from on Carnival day.
Transport and Parking
Unless it's absolutely necessary, please leave your vehicle at home and come to Carnival on public transport. Manchester has excellent bus and tram services, and a good train network. Alexandra Park can be reached using the following bus services: 85, 101, 102, 103 and 111. For a journey planner, timetables and route maps see the Transport for Greater Manchester website.

If you do need to drive, please arrive early and find an appropriate parking place away from the park itself. You can follow the sounds, colour and sweet smell of Carnival during your short walk to Alexandra Park. Please also be considerate and respectful of local residents when parking on the streets nearby. Your understanding and cooperation in this respect will be much appreciated.

And Finally!
Our Carnival is always a fun-filled weekend, so please leave any attitudes at home & bring your party side with you. The Carnival is a great event that everyone wants to enjoy; just relax, enjoy and soak it all in!
